In his work, Jan attempts to capture the geographical and physical qualities of the elements.
Swell lines hitting sandbanks, wind trying to cling to the water’s surface. The natural energies, movements and colors of his own personal experiences of landscapes are transformed into an image or visual object.
The tones he experiments with are elusive illusions that emerge through the play of light and the reflection of his surfaces.
To capture the elusive in something tangible like pigment or paint, Jan conducts in-depth research into the different qualities of pigments and materials. He currently uses gels as a base, combining different pigments, sometimes transparent, sometimes opaque, ultimately influencing the underlying and surface layers.
